The series Variations in Blue explores blue as an autonomous field of perception and materiality. Ultramarine, Prussian blue and white are investigated through pigment density, layering, spatula movement, surface structure and light. The works are non-representational: colour itself becomes the subject and physical substance of the painting.
The series comprises works ranging from intimate formats to large-scale compositions. No. 4 Ultramarine (140 × 70 cm) concentrates on the depth and material presence of a single colour, while No. 11 Variation in Blue with White (60 × 60 cm) develops blue through the interaction of contrasting tonal layers. Together, the works demonstrate different approaches to colour, surface, depth and spatial perception.

Die Werkgruppe Variations in Blue untersucht Blau als eigenständigen Wahrnehmungs- und Materialraum. Ultramarin, Preußischblau und Weiß werden über Pigmentdichte, Schichtung, Spachtelbewegung, Oberflächenstruktur und Licht erforscht. Die Arbeiten sind gegenstandslos angelegt: Die Farbe selbst wird zum Gegenstand und zur materiellen Substanz der Malerei.
Die Werkgruppe umfasst Arbeiten von intimen Formaten bis hin zu großformatigen Kompositionen. Nr. 4 Ultramarin (140 × 70 cm) konzentriert sich auf die Tiefe und materielle Präsenz einer einzelnen Farbe, während Nr. 11 Variation in Blau mit Weiß (60 × 60 cm) Blau durch das Zusammenspiel unterschiedlicher Farbschichten entwickelt. Gemeinsam zeigen die Arbeiten unterschiedliche Möglichkeiten der Untersuchung von Farbe, Oberfläche, Tiefe und räumlicher Wahrnehmung.
